Shades of Green {Benefit Concert}

The BAG Fund is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit whose mission is to help support the creative process by providing artists with studio space and technical support at critical points in their life cycle.

This Friday November 7th The BAG Fund hosts its inaugural fundraiser Shades of Green from 8pm to 12am. This will be a green benefit concert held at the LEED certified Center for the Urban Environment and represents the growing intersection between the green movement and the artist community. Proceeds from this fundraiser will make it possible to award high school and single parent artists with studio space to create a new body of work. The title Shades of Green refers to TBF's role as a supportive agent of the creative ecosystem – promoting sustainability for art and artists.

Steve Ben Israel, was a long time member of the Living Theater, worked with the company from the late fifties to the late seventies. He was a performer in their seminal works “The Brig, Frankenstein, Mysteries, and Paradise Now”. He toured throughout Europe, America, North Africa, and escaped from Brazil when The Living Theater was held there, he then worked to free them and the group returned to bring their work back to the States.

His background is in Jazz, the stand up comedy scene of the New York Greenwich village renaissance of the fifties with Bill Cosby and Bob Dylan, and the Living Theater’s world travels. He currently lives in downtown NYC where he “holds séances to contact the living” and does a one man show that fuses all of these influences called "Non Violent Executions"

Steve Ben Israel will be follwed by his son Baba Israel accompanied by multi-instrumentalist and beatboxer Yako!

Come and experience a journey through two directly connected lives- from family to the stage, from Beat poets to Beatboxing, from riffs to rhymes, from hipsters to Hip Hop, from counter culture to "Continuity"

The Art of Beatbox combined with a Nu Jazz swing makes for the hottest and hippest ticket in town. Led by human beat boxers Baba Israel and Kid Lucky take the lead in this exciting and fresh sound of "jazz fusion" at the legendary Blue Note!

Human beatboxer s in this amazing show consist of Kid Lucky Baba Israel, Yako, Taylor Mcferrin, D-Cross and Chesney Snow. Previous Beatboxer Ent. Events have been called "The real beat generation!" by the Daily News and Timeout NY called the beatboxers in the series "masters in the art of noise."

The raw genius of beatbox on this night will hook up with New York’s own Jason Lindner- "Jason Lindner is a musical universe!" - Chick Corea. "Lindner ranks among the finest all-around pianist-composers of his generation." - Time Out New York. The band will be backed by Tony Escapa on drums and Avishai Cohen on horn whose last record was recently chosen by Ben Ratliff of the New York Times as one of the records of the Sunday Times Playlist..

Expect a blend of live Jazz,funk, Hip Hop with vocal beats and scratches! Beatbox solos and duets, Beatbox and drum duets, a trio made of two beatboxers and trumpet, and all out sessions between four beatboxers and the whole band! If you can imagine it, it will happen on this night!
